Cold pressed oils sit at the intersection of two major Indian consumer trends: the return to traditional foods and the rise of health-conscious cooking. A Rajkot-based brand pressing and selling cold pressed groundnut oil, sesame oil, coconut oil, and mustard oil came to Ho Digital wanting to scale D2C beyond local farmers markets and referral sales. In 3 months with a ₹1 lakh monthly budget, we generated 5x ROAS — ₹15 lakh in revenue from ₹3 lakh spend.

About the Brand

The brand presses oils in small batches using traditional wooden-press (ghani) methods with no heat, chemicals, or refining. Products are priced between ₹299 for 500ml to ₹1,299 for a 5-litre family pack. Average order value is ₹850. Buyers are health-conscious families, people managing diabetes or cholesterol, and traditional cooking enthusiasts. They had a Shopify store with good content but minimal paid traffic.

The Challenge

Cold pressed oil buyers need to be educated before they convert. Most people searching 'groundnut oil online' are looking for Fortune or Dhara refined oil at ₹150 per litre — not a premium cold pressed alternative at ₹400. Capturing the right buyer — someone who already understands or is researching the health benefits of cold pressed oils — required a layered targeting approach that filtered out commodity buyers before the click.

Our Strategy

Every keyword included a qualifier: 'cold pressed', 'wood pressed', 'kachi ghani', 'unrefined', or 'chemical free'. These terms naturally attracted health-educated buyers and excluded price-comparison shoppers. PMax amplified reach to health-conscious audiences across Google's inventory. Landing pages provided the education and trust signals necessary to convert a first-time buyer who'd never paid ₹400 for a litre of oil.

Campaign Architecture

Performance Max — Health-Aware Audiences

Two asset groups: Wood Pressed Cooking Oils and Health & Traditional Eating. Audience signals targeted people interested in Ayurveda, diabetes management, cholesterol health, natural living, organic food, and traditional Indian cooking. PMax drove 56% of total conversions at a 5.2x ROAS.

Google Shopping — Benefit-Based Custom Labels

Custom labels by oil type (groundnut, sesame, coconut, mustard) and primary health benefit (heart health, skin & hair, traditional cooking). This let us match ad creative and landing page to the buyer's primary search motivation. High bids on cold pressed groundnut oil and sesame oil — the highest search volume and best conversion among all oil types.

YouTube — Wood Press Process Explainer

A 45-second video showing the traditional wooden press extraction process — the ghani, the slow cold pressing, the raw oil clarity — contrasted with the industrial refining process of commercial oils. No voiceover explaining benefits; the visual contrast did the persuasion work. Retargeted to site visitors and health food content viewers. Drove 14% of conversions.

CRO — Education Before Conversion

BYPL pages led with the 'Why Cold Pressed?' section before showing the product — explaining what cold pressing preserves (nutrients, flavour, natural antioxidants) and what refining destroys. Followed by oil-specific health benefits, a comparison chart versus refined alternatives, customer testimonials with health outcome stories, and a family pack bundle with free delivery. Conversion rate improved from 1.8% to 4.4%.

Key Takeaways

Health food is a category where education IS the conversion mechanism. Buyers who understand why cold pressed oil is worth 3x the price of refined oil convert at 4x the rate of buyers who don't. The highest-ROI decision in this campaign was investing in educational landing page content before investing in ad scale. If your product is in a category where buyers need to be convinced to pay a premium, the landing page education is not optional — it's the reason people buy.
