Google Ads for Saree Brands: How a Ready-to-Wear Saree Business Hit 5x ROAS Without Selling on Nykaa Fashion

One-minute sarees — pre-stitched, ready-to-drape sarees that take under a minute to wear — are one of the fastest-growing product categories in Indian ethnic fashion. They remove the expertise barrier that keeps many women from wearing sarees daily. A Surat-based brand manufacturing and selling pre-stitched silk, georgette, and cotton sarees in 200+ designs came to Ho Digital wanting to scale D2C on Shopify and reduce dependence on Nykaa Fashion and Meesho. In 4 months on a ₹1.5 lakh monthly budget, we generated 5x ROAS — ₹30 lakh in revenue from ₹6 lakh spend.

About the Brand

The brand sells pre-stitched sarees priced between ₹799 and ₹4,999 across fabrics (silk, georgette, cotton, linen) and occasions (office wear, festive, bridal). Average order value is ₹1,550. They had strong Instagram traction with draping tutorial reels and loyal return customers, but their Shopify store traffic was almost entirely organic — no paid acquisition infrastructure.

The Challenge

Sarees on Google Shopping compete across every price band — from ₹299 polyester sarees to ₹25,000 Kanjivaram silk. The ready-to-wear angle was a strong differentiator, but 'one minute saree' as a category keyword had moderate volume and was still being educated into the market. We needed to bridge two types of buyer: women who already knew they wanted a pre-stitched saree (lower funnel), and women who loved sarees but found draping difficult (education-first, upper funnel).

Our Strategy

We structured campaigns around the occasion and the barrier: office wear (women who want to wear sarees to work but find draping impractical), festive and party (women who love ethnic looks but want the ease of a one-minute drape for events), and gifting (mothers and daughters buying for each other). Each segment had its own intent signals, ad copy, and landing page — because the reason someone wants a pre-stitched saree varies enormously by occasion and life stage.

Campaign Architecture

Performance Max — Occasion-Based Audience Groups

Three asset groups: Office & Casual Wear Sarees, Festive & Party Sarees, and Bridal & Gifting. Each had audience signals aligned to the occasion — office wear targeted professional women, festive targeted Indian fashion enthusiasts, bridal targeted those researching wedding trousseau. PMax drove 60% of total conversions with an efficient cost per acquisition.

Google Shopping — Fabric and Price Band Labels

Custom labels by fabric type (silk, georgette, cotton, linen) and price band. High bids on silk and georgette pre-stitched sarees — strongest margin and highest AOV. Cotton and linen at moderate bids for volume. Shopping captured buyers who already knew what fabric they wanted and were comparing options — the lowest funnel, highest-intent buyer.

YouTube — Draping Demo as Conversion Tool

30-second in-stream ads showing the full one-minute draping process — saree out of bag, draped, styled, and ready in under 60 seconds. This creative addressed the primary purchase barrier directly: 'I can't drape a saree' becomes 'Actually, I can.' Targeted to women who had visited the site and to saree tutorial viewers on YouTube. This creative outperformed every other format by 2.3x in terms of return visitor conversion.

CRO — Demo-First Landing Pages

BYPL pages opened with an autoplay draping video (muted, looped) at the top — not a static product image. Followed by fabric and colour options, a size guide, customer styling photos, and a same-day dispatch badge for orders before 2pm. GoKiwi showed 'X women bought this in the last 24 hours'. Conversion rate improved from 1.6% to 4.2% — the single highest CR improvement across all our D2C fashion campaigns.

Key Takeaways

The video demo was the single most important creative asset in this campaign. In a category where the product's key benefit is 'you don't need draping skill', showing that benefit in a 30-second video performs far better than any static ad copy explaining it. For D2C fashion brands with a functional product story, video creative on YouTube and in PMax asset groups is not optional — it's the conversion engine. Invest in it before you scale budget.
