Meta Ads for Home Decor Brands in India: Fixing Low ROAS with Room Transformation UGC and Indian Aesthetic Content [4x ROAS]

Home decor on Meta Ads fails for one primary reason: showing products without context. A brass diyas set, a hand-woven wall hanging, or a pottery vase looks beautiful in isolation — but buyers on Instagram need to visualise it in a room before they'll commit to purchase. This Rajasthani handcrafted home decor brand was running product-only carousels at 1.9x ROAS. Ho Digital rebuilt their creative strategy around context, transformation, and the Indian home aesthetic movement.
About the Brand
Our client sells handcrafted home decor — brass decoratives, hand-painted pottery, woven textiles, and heritage-style furniture accents — directly through their Shopify store. Made by artisans in Rajasthan, with a strong "Made in India" authenticity story. But their Meta Ads were running product shots against the most visually demanding audience on the internet.
The Problem: Products Without Context Don't Sell on Instagram
Their existing carousels showed individual products against white backgrounds — catalogue-style photography that works in a marketplace listing but dies in an Instagram feed. Home decor buyers need inspiration before they need product specs. They need to see the object in a room, styled with other pieces, creating the exact mood they want in their own home. Without this context, the creative is just noise.
A secondary issue: their targeting was too broad and too competitive. "Home decor" interest audiences contain everyone from IKEA buyers to architecture students. High CPMs, low relevance, generic results. We needed to narrow toward the specific, high-intent segment that would be passionate about handcrafted Indian decor — and speak to them in a language they already understood.
Our Meta Ads Strategy
Phase 1: Testing Context-First Creative Formats
We built a test around creative format rather than audience: product-only carousels (control) vs room styling videos (individual products shown in context) vs room transformation before/after (empty or generic room transformed using the brand's products) vs aesthetic collection reels (multiple products shown together creating a full Indian aesthetic). Targeting: Indian Home Decor interest, Interior Design community, Ethnic/Boho home aesthetic, and Broad 28–45 homeowners. Budget: ₹15,000/day for 10 days. Room transformation content outperformed product-only carousels 4x on CTR and 5x on ROAS.
Phase 2: Advantage+ Shopping with Transformation Content
We moved the top room transformation and styling content into Advantage+ Shopping, integrating the product catalog for dynamic retargeting within the same campaign. This let buyers click through from inspiration content directly to the specific products shown in the styled room — reducing the friction between "I want this look" and "I can buy exactly what I see." AOV increased 28% when buyers were coming from styled-room content vs product carousels.
Phase 3: Retargeting by Inspiration Depth
Retargeting segmented by engagement: room transformation video viewers (50%+ watch) received a "complete the look" product bundle offer; specific product page visitors received styling ideas showing how that piece fits into a full room; add-to-cart received an artisan story and quality assurance creative to address the hesitation that stops premium handcrafted purchases; Instagram story viewers received a swipe-up to a curated collection by room type (living room, bedroom, entryway).
Creative Strategy: Room Reveals, Indian Aesthetic Hooks, and Heritage Stories
Hooks That Drove Purchase Intent
"My living room looked like every other apartment in the building. Then I found this Rajasthan brand." — relatable dissatisfaction + specific solution, 3.4% CTR. "₹2,500 spent here completely transformed my room. Before and after." — specific investment + transformation proof, 2.9% CTR and highest conversion to purchase. "Indian handcrafted home decor is the interior trend that Instagram is sleeping on. This is where to start." — trend-discovery hook that positioned the brand as a taste-leader rather than just a product seller, highest video completion rate. The transformation hook with a real "before and after" generated the most saves (18.2K on one reel) — indicating high purchase intent even from non-immediate buyers.
Room Makeover UGC and Indian Home Aesthetic Content
We built a UGC collection programme: existing customers shared their "Indian home makeover" content — room transformation videos, styling tutorials showing multiple products together, and "what I ordered vs how it looks" reveals. This content was authentic, context-rich, and visually aspirational — exactly what Instagram's algorithm rewards. Ten room-reveal UGC videos became the foundation of the ASC campaign, and two went organically viral within Indian home decor communities (combined 340K+ views).
Interior Design Creator Partnership Ads
We partnered with 5 interior design and Indian home aesthetic micro-creators (30K–180K followers) who transformed a room using the brand's products and documented the full process. These were run as Partnership Ads — giving us the creator's audience trust, their follower retargeting pool, and a content format that Instagram's algorithm natively favours. Creator Partnership Ad CPM averaged 26% lower than our brand page campaigns, with 2.4x higher save rate (a key indicator of delayed purchase intent).
Results After 90 Days
Ad Spend: ₹1L/month | Revenue: ₹4L/month | ROAS: 4x | CTR: 0.9% → 3.4% | AOV: +28% (bundle purchases from styled-room content) | Top creative: Room transformation before/after UGC | Best campaign: Advantage+ Shopping | Reel saves as a purchase-intent indicator: 18K saves on best-performing video.
Key Takeaways for Home Decor Brands on Meta
1. Product-only creatives fail in home decor — context-first room styling content is non-negotiable for purchase inspiration. 2. The "before and after" room transformation format drives the highest purchase intent signal on Instagram (saves). 3. AOV increases significantly when buyers see products styled together in a room rather than isolated in a catalog. 4. Indian home aesthetic creator content resonates with a large, underserved audience that premium catalogue-style ads never reach.
